Planning & Compulsory Purchase

Brodies' planning team is committed to getting positive results for clients.

We continue to be innovative in our service delivery, responding to emerging issues such as the reform of the Scottish planning system, climate change, the use of informal hearings and mediation.

Our team of 7 lawyers, which includes 2 Legal Associates of the RTPI, all work exclusively on planning and related services. The size, dedicated expertise and experience of the team cannot be replicated in Scotland.

We advise on the full range of planning and development issues, across public and private sector activity, including residential, commercial, retail, transport and renewable energy developments, and compulsory purchase.

We work with planners, not compete with them. As lawyers, we advise on appropriate procedures and tactics, using our experience to anticipate other parties' strategies. We assess risk - of getting the desired result; timing; and potential obstacles. Our advocacy skills, written and verbal, are used to best present the client's case in written communications, hearings and inquiries. We also negotiate and draft planning agreements.

The Royal Town Planning Institute's magazine "Planning" annual Legal Survey voted Brodies top planning law firm in Scotland, and Neil Collar was voted top Scottish planning solicitor. The planning team also received top tier ranking in the Legal 500 and Chambers legal directories.

Brodies has launched a new blog for discussion of planning news and issues. Please click here to access PlanningBlog.
