Brodies has one of the largest shipping teams in the country specialising in both contentious and non-contentious shipping. In transactional work, our team has expertise in advising on the shipping, offshore, fish farming and fishing industries, and is also a significant player in the wider transportation arena.
We are well versed on the legal and commercial issues relating to ship finance. We have particular knowledge of the complex security structures required to support loan facilities made available for ship and new build finance, and other facilities made to clients operating in the shipping industry.
Whether we are acting for banks or other lenders, owners, charterers or government agencies, we are geared to help clients manage the risks associated with the construction, sale, purchase, chartering or management of all types of commercial vessels (including offshore rigs) and mega yachts.
Working closely with our corporate and banking teams, our highly respected environmental law team, with input and support where necessary from our contentious shipping arm, including one of Scotland’s foremost shipping experts, Duncan MacLean, we are well placed to deal with contractual arrangements, mortgage and insurance issues, as well as restructuring and insolvency arrangements.
