Pensions
At Brodies we recognise the synergy between the pension scheme and the business that supports it. We focus on delivering integrated and pragmatic advice and providing workable solutions for employers and trustees.
Our experience includes acting for both public sector and private sector clients across a wide range of local authority and central government contracts (involving the LGPS, the PCSPS and the NHS Pension Scheme) and across various utilities sectors, including railways, gas, electricity, water and nuclear.
In the private sector we act for employers and trustees of defined benefit pension schemes, advising them on a full range of issues including governance, scheme funding, the use of contingent assets, liability limitation, the PPF levy, benefit entitlement queries, scheme mergers and scheme wind ups. We provide advice in relation to all aspects of commercial transactions including commercial outsourcing. We advise clients on Regulator clearance, the use of apportionment and withdrawal arrangements and managing "Beckmann" liabilities.
As well as providing local authorities with advice in relation to various aspects of the Local Government Pension Scheme our team has wide ranging experience of various public and industry wide pension schemes.
We have experience of advising on the treatment of pension liabilities on corporate restructuring, employer insolvency and PPF entry. Our experience also includes acting in contentious pension matters before the Pensions Ombudsman, Employment Tribunals and the Courts.
We provide pensions advice to pension providers on the development and evolution of both generic and tailored pension products.
Positioned within the largest employment team in Scotland, we provide a co-ordinated response to the HR function of major corporate clients across a spread of pension related issues.
