Odell heads Brodies' Agricultural and Estates team. She has more than twenty years' experience in rural and estate business and is accredited as a Specialist in Agricultural Law by the Law Society of Scotland. Acting for a large number of clients engaged in rural and farming business, she is involved in transactions covering the full range of rural property matters including the sale and purchase of estates, farms, salmon fishings and forestry and agricultural law. As these projects have become increasingly important to our rural clients, she also advises with regard to commercial development, mineral agreements, telecom leases, wind farm options and leases and hydro schemes.
A member of our cross-departmental Transport team, Odell leads Brodies' team carrying out the property work relating to the high profile and high value Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine, Airdrie-Bathgate and Borders (Waverley) Railways. She supervises the team which has carried out the land acquisition for all three railways and advises on a wide range of topics including complex compulsory purchase matters, agricultural holdings, utility relocation, bridge agreements, roads and access, station leases, voluntary purchase schemes, common property, noise and vibration, railway legislation and regulatory matters, asset protection, permitted development rights, human rights, HMRI matters, level crossings, Private Bill and Transport & Works (Scotland) Order Procedure and Compulsory Purchase legislation and procedure.

Odell is co-author with Karen Hamilton of the Stair Memorial Encyclopaedia Re-issue "Compulsory Acquisition and Compensation" (LexisNexis/Butterworths 2008). She is a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars on compulsory purchase and rural topics including agricultural holdings as well as regularly contributing articles to industry publications. She has been quoted in the press on both Transport and Rural and Agricultural Holdings matters. Odell is a member of the Scottish Arbiters' and Valuers' Association and of the Agricultural Law Association.
