Gemma joined the market-leading Public Law & Regulatory team in 2013 and became a Senior Solicitor in July 2014. She advises on a range of public law and commercial issues. Her specific areas of practice expertise include powers and duties of local and central government, statutory interpretation, equality and human rights, data protection and freedom of information laws.
Gemma has previously worked as an in-house solicitor for Aberdeenshire Council, practising in areas such as child and adult social care, education, housing and equalities. She has also spent time on secondment at the City of Edinburgh Council (dealing with AWI, housing and anti-social behaviour matters) and at the Scottish Government (dealing with commercial and employment issues).
She appears regularly in the sheriff court and has advocacy experience in the Fire-tier Tribunal. She has handled judicial reviews in the Court of Session and Supreme Court.
Gemma has also tutored public law and human rights courses at the University of Edinburgh.
