Douglas gives advice to public and private sector clients in a broad range of areas, including statutory interpretation, the powers and duties of public bodies, public law and governance. He has particular expertise advising clients on education-related matters, such as placing requests, governance policies of educational institutions, school closures and pupils with additional support needs.

Douglas is a practised litigator and has acted as instructing solicitor in a large number of Court of Session cases, including judicial reviews, procurement challenges and statutory appeals. He has significant experience advising clients on litigation strategy and court procedure. In addition, he has also appeared for clients in the public and private sector in the sheriff courts in a variety of cases, including cases involving housing/anti-social behaviour, education appeals, private client disputes and control of livestock.

Douglas also has extensive expertise advising clients in the social housing sector, including registered social landlords and regulators. He regularly advises on interpretation of housing legislation and represents clients in sheriff court actions, including anti-social behaviour applications and evictions, repossessions and recoveries of SSSTs.
