It was with great sadness that we learned last week that our partner, colleague and friend Charles Smith had died suddenly at home in Edinburgh. Charles was one of Scotland's most highly regarded projects, energy and environmental law specialists and will be greatly missed by colleagues at Brodies and clients alike.
Charles joined Brodies in 1985 as a trainee and was a partner in the firm for more than 25 years. He was a trusted adviser to clients, a mentor to many young lawyers and law students and an active member of the wider legal community. Charles was also enormous fun.
He was a Brodies lawyer through and through and his contribution - and friendship - made a huge impact on those around him. As one partner said last week, "Charles is someone I will always say I was proud to know.
Charles' funeral will be held at Warriston Crematorium on Friday, 12 February at 2pm, to which all are welcome.
