Scotland's best young swimmers make waves at the Brodies Scottish Schools Swimming Championship

Hundreds of Scotland's best young swimmers took part in the annual Brodies Scottish Schools Swimming Championship last weekend - smashing nine Championship records and showcasing the wealth of sporting talent in Scotland in the run-up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Pupils representing schools as far apart as Thurso and Kelso travelled to the Dollan Leisure Centre in East Kilbride to take part in the prestigious annual competition, which is a highlight of the sporting calendar for Scotland's young athletes.

Brodies Partners, Elena Fry and Bill Drummond and other colleagues were on hand to congratulate the swimmers with medals and trophies at the championship on Saturday (January 28), which saw almost 500 young people compete in 67 races. Click here for a list of record breakers and trophy winners.

The Championships are run by the Scottish Schools Swimming Association (SSSA), a voluntary organisation which has been encouraging the pursuit of swimming across Scotland for more than 60 years. The SSSA is actively supported by the law firm Brodies so that national and team swimming championships continue to be provided for all young swimmers in Scotland, and many budding future stars. 2012 is the sixth national championships held with Brodies sponsorship support.

Bill Drummond, Managing Partner of Brodies LLP, said: "Once again the Brodies Schools Swimming Championship was a huge success and demonstrated the tremendous sporting talent we have in Scotland. Nine Championship records were broken and it was a pleasure to see all the hard work and dedication of so many gifted youngsters recognised. I was particularly impressed by two races that I watched - James Yule breaking the boys 17-19 200 breaststroke record set just last year by Craig Benson (himself a gold medallist for Great Britain at 100 breast in last year's world junior championship in Lima) and all three medal winners in the 15-16 girls 200 backstroke coming in below the previous best - a sign that we'll be seeing more of them in the years to come, hopefully as our international stars of the future"
