Minimising the impact we have on the environment is becoming second nature these days. But at Brodies it's not about compliance and it's more than just 'doing our bit' for corporate social responsibility. We're translating ideas into direct action because we know it's the right thing to do.
Through our own internal initiative SUSTAIN we are harnessing technology to reduce energy use, carbon emissions, and the consumption of resources such as paper. We have formally assessed our carbon footprint for the main part of our premises and identified priority action areas - conducting a staff travel survey to identify ways to promote cycling to work as a better option, introducing duplex printing as standard, increasing recycling across all sites, and launching a "paperless office" initiative across departments and an Environmental Awareness Week across our premises.
To date we have achieved a 40% reduction in paper consumption at Brodies; and we are now focused on introducing an Environmental Management System, with a key objective of zero waste to landfill. As a member of the Prince's May Day Network, the UK's largest group of businesses committed to taking action on climate change, we pledge to annually implement best practice.
